The high-elevation areas of our forecast area were left out of the Winter Weather Advisories and High Wind Warnings in yesterday’s morning forecast package from the NWS. There have been a couple of changes made regarding the warnings and advisories I mentioned yesterday. I will talk more about precipitation totals this afternoon, but I am expecting similar totals to last week, but a lot more wind. Much colder air will move in behind the frontal passage on Tuesday. Rain showers and snow will move in later today/tonight. If you are one of those people, you may want to get out early to run any errands. Blowing dust may affect respiratorily sensitivity this afternoon. Strong winds will develop this afternoon. We may get a break starting Thursday! More details on that after this storm. Up to 2 inches (0 to 2 inches) of snow will be possible in all other areas before melting. 2 to 4 in the mid-elevations areas and I am going to include Dolores because they seem to do well in this type of set-up. 3 to 5 for Silverton and Telluride in town. 6 to 10 for Rico, Molas, Coal Bank, and Red Mountain. It sounds like a lot, but I don’t think the totals will be that impressive. I also would not rule out snow showers redeveloping in the higher elevations Wednesday afternoon. I think light snow will continue throughout the day tomorrow and even into the evening and overnight hours in the higher elevations. I also believe the high winds will extend well beyond the 11 pm expiration. I think we will see a noticeable uptick in the winds very late this afternoon or this evening. I do believe their warranted, I would have just started them and ended them later. All of the models continue to delay the onset of precipitation until tonight and tomorrow morning.Īs I mentioned yesterday, I think the timing on the wind advisories and warnings may be a bit premature. No big changes on the morning model runs. Thanks for following and supporting the site! I am not going to put my snow thrower away for the season just yet, but I am looking forward to a warmer, boring weather pattern for a while! I would caution everyone regarding getting too comfortable with the warm and dry period because I think this ridge of high pressure will be on the move around the end of next week. So enjoy it, with the warmer temperatures the winds will become a daily issue. I know everyone or almost everyone, has been looking forward to this. Then we will enter into a 7 to 10-day period of warmer temperatures and no precipitation. 24 more hours of cold weather and a chance for light snow showers developing later today.
